I became a software engineer because I believe technology can help everyday people achieve extraordinary feats.
Today, data is at the heart of technological progress. Whilst it can sometimes sound a little scary, the truth is that data can be used to do a world of good.
Popsa makes the data contained in your photos work for your benefit, even if you’re not confident with technology.

Data can be a sensitive subject, so my team follows a simple philosophy: the more you opt in, the more personalised a service you’ll receive back.
You choose what you’re comfortable with, so if you don’t wish to grant access to your photo library, for example, you’ll still benefit from a best-in-class experience to create meaningful keepsakes, you’ll just need to select photos manually instead.
On the other hand, when you opt in to our full service, we tailor everything to your needs. We can organise your library for you, removing hundreds of manual, tedious tasks that would usually take hours, freeing you to focus on what matters most—reliving your memories.

Object Classification
We train large-scale transformer-based vision models on millions of labelled images to classify thousands of everyday objects, scenes, and activities. This allows our app to understand the visual context of each photo, whether it’s a sunset, a crowded festival, or your dog’s birthday.
Computer Vision
We train our own convolutional neural networks on tens of millions of images to evaluate composition, lighting, and subject balance, generating aesthetic scores that help us identify your most beautiful photos.
Location Metadata
Using large-scale reverse geocoding and spatial indexing, our app can turn photo coordinates into meaningful place names, thanks to our global location database. This covers everything from large regions like countries all the way down to individual restaurants and cafés, enabling us to surface meaningful context around your photos.
Facial Recognition
We train ResNet-based deep learning models, enhanced with Squeeze-and-Excitation layers, to recognise faces reliably across variations in pose, lighting, age, and expression. This enables you to find photos of people accurately throughout your photo library, even when appearances change over time.
Time-Series Analysis
We use a spatio-temporal variant of DBSCAN to cluster photos by time and location, identifying natural groupings such as trips, events, and moments of activity. By analysing how photos are captured in space and time, we infer meaningful stories and transitions across your photo library.
Large Language Models (LLMs)
Our multimodal language models combine visual features with transformer-based text generation to describe, summarise, and reason about your photos. This alignment between vision and language helps us understand your memories on a deeper level.
Orchestrator Agents
We deploy intelligent AI agents that act as orchestrators, capable of selecting and using specialised models and tools autonomously. By reasoning about your data and chaining multiple systems together, they automate complex creative workflows so you can focus on the finishing touches.
